A group of women has staged a daring protest outside the House of Commons and marched through Parliament Hill as part of a Women’s Day campaign.

The campaigners, who have called themselves the Ladies’ March, believe being photographed in public places could lead to sexual assault being thrown the wrong way.

The activist, who prefers not to be named, said the group took place after a female journalist in London was jailed for groping a 16-year-old boy in front of her friends.

She said she felt she should not allow young men around her to view her as she was standing in Parliament.

It’s not about me and my body, I wanted to make sure it was just because I was wearing a bit of makeup. I wanted to show people she was worth her weight in gold, without a doubt, I was going for gold, she said by video link on Facebook

The issue of this sort of behaviour is not so much on an online level, and I do think people in these parts have some issues about it.

But she added It’s about people actually being honest about how people want men to see who they are.

It’s about being honest and it needs to be acknowledged and we need to give women a real role model for how women should be treated in our society if we are to make a real and effective difference in this country.

The event has been taken under a coalition agreement between the House of Commons and the Department of Justice.

However, many MPs opposed the protesters, who say women, particularly young women of colour, need a greater role in society.

The coalition said if the Prime Minister decides to regulate policing for the next few years it will have to deal with the problem.

A spokeswoman for ConservativeHome said it was deeply concerned by the incredibly significant and important movement going on around Parliament Hill in recent days.

She said It is my view that when we are in opposition, there will always be the possibility of a very significant public controversy about what is being done in this parliament and that the government must address that, not take it for granted.
