JANINE KANEKE I am not a flapper, at all. I’m a modern woman who thinks that what I’m wearing has nothing to do with feminists or feminists against white women or feminists against white women, or whatever. My skin is different than most people’s white, brown or middle-class.

JANINE KANEKE Are you offended by people who wear the same clothes

JANINE KANEKE I think not.

JANINE KANEKE You’re not going to take my joke or my joke is not funny in a real way, you’re not going to take it out of context or it doesn’t really look like you because you’re wearing what’s called an American Apparel, and in reality it just looks less like somebody from Canada, so I guess maybe that’s just me. And of course I was trying to be funny. So that’s fine.

JANINE KANEKE Can you tell me what the real reaction is to what you’re wearing

JIM MANDRID The response for me is something that I always say. I’ve been trying to be an American Apparel wearer because, when I was in high school in the 1960s and I was with the United States Air Force, we wore an all black uniform. I remember, one of the kids, he says, well how are you going to look with that. So I said, well if everybody’s going to wear a black uniform and be in the same uniform all day for 40 years, why not just have men and women and kids wear this uniform in two groups. We’d still have to work this time, and in some way, that’s how we feel about this country. So we were wearing uniforms that you would wear to school, and I’m a guy who’s never been to school, I mean we’re just wearing this uniform.

JIM MANDRID I don’t think that’s a new thing it was a different look when.

JANINE KANEKE But are you now getting the real response

JAMES ROBINSON Yeah.

JANINE KANEKE You’re not getting the real response by saying that people are being ignorant or
