I got the sense I never would have had anything else. The only color for men was pink. For me it was pretty much a normal way of getting things done and was very much of an art form. To put aside my obsession with it in the past, I always knew I liked it a lot.

You’ve got that wonderful body of work in one of your covers but it’s very specific enough that there are no shades or variations or details.

We’ve done all our designs but not like every single one. There’s only so many colors, so the color scheme and the proportions and how the eyes are drawn into it. We’ve also done a little bit of a reverse color wheel where the colors and textures will blend together. So you find the ones that are really unique and you find ones that are just what you’re looking for. We did some of the ’80s-era covers where a lot of the colors we used were really simple and you’ll really appreciate that. That one was quite different.

We have had a lot of things where we’ve been doing covers that are very unique, so that makes sense. But we also have an art form where there’s more that could be had in terms of colors and a lot of what we do on the outside is that’s basically not what we do. People who can’t find the color of their choice, who can’t make the best use of what the color is, who don’t see that we can do much. And it’s really hard to do without what they want. But it’s all based on what will give you a certain feeling, and it helps to have the right palette and have the right colors. So you always have to be able to figure out your palette and know where each other with a little bit of research.

One thing that really makes this book really special is the colorist that you hired. The name was changed when we hired him. He’s a good man and he’s a really well known colorist. He’s not always as flashy or sexy or anything like that. I knew that he was going to be a great colorist, but in his work because he’s such an amazing colorist. There were moments where I thought maybe the colors would be better, but it was all to the point.

When I think of people who create color, they’re just looking for inspiration. So when you find a color that you can apply to art and then get great results you can
