The idea behind an active chord progression is to find more of a chord progression without changing finger patterns. When I first began to play with scales for my fingerpicking, those finger patterns were very simple and I wasn’t using scales for the notes I wanted to use. I then felt a little bit more confident using them.

I tried to create a simple, linear rhythm in which chords could be used. I did have a problem with the basic chord progression in the way it was broken down into sections which were also repeated in intervals without increasing finger style. I thought the problem at hand is that the intervals of those notes are too short to be a chord progression. It would take more time and patience to learn the pattern and then take advantage of my new technique to use it on the fretboard. But it seemed like it was a fun concept, and it ended up being very helpful for a few hours in my early days of fingerpicking.

What makes this system unique

Guitarists often try their hand at using fingerstyle chords to write chord progression for their playing. I use them for the most part in soloing, and I believe many a guitarist is more comfortable using fingring on a string than with a finger over the fretboard. I think some people find it more comfortable to try them on the fretboard because they tend to be easier in terms of how they look and feel with the technique. If you’re looking for fingerstyle chords to begin with, a good way to start is with the traditional fingerstyle chord progression. I’ve played two variations of the classic fingering version which I think are great to start your learning.

What other fingerstyle chords do you use

One of the most common fingersstyle chord styles is the basic and harmonic (hence my name). As I mentioned earlier, you can apply a certain number in every finger and there is nothing wrong with that.
