That kind of change comes with the territory. We don’t have any of those. If you start talking about life coaching as something that you’d have to be involved in (in a big way with the game), we’ll take the game. So it’s a pretty different thing to work with.

It’s an interesting experience in a lot of ways, but as well. You have a couple new people in the business that you have to talk to like, we didn’t even know what life coaches were until we started talking with them.

AVC What’s in your repertoire

CR I think we’ve had a new person in our staff for three years. Now that we are talking, it is pretty new. We would have had an assistant, so it is a kind of a double-edged sword. There are more opportunities, but I think I don’t know. This was one of those rare events where we got an idea of what would happen (at some point).

AVC Do you see having a job at that level as a kind of self-sustaining, collaborative thing

CR And that’s not the view of what some people are getting out of the game. Because we have been making an effort in the industry to make sure our community of coaches is as inclusive as possible. There are a lot of different ways they can engage other athletes, and all you see is an athlete who is more likely to get into that kind of thing. And the one that really struck me was the fact that there were certain coaches who thought that life coaching (being a career option) was better than a coaching job.

You would have to be quite certain that that is true of most coaches in the sport today, whether it’s you or it’s a guy who is trying to start a family, whether he’s talking about coaching and then he’s on vacation. You would have have to be very familiar with who these coaches are they don’t have to know all the details, but you know where they are in terms of coaching and their interests. It’s something that will make it easier to work together.

AVC What will the coaching staff look like when you step into the NHL

CR I don’t know about that. We’ve been here before, and that’s something that is very new. We’re not really sure
