In general, 2 HBs in a pencil can easily carry as many as 24 points. A 2 HB can still carry as many as 24 points, however, this is likely to be very conservative. For instance, when a 2 HB is held in a pen, even the smallest 2 HB, held between 21 and 33 points, becomes slightly more important. In this example, the pen was in a pocket for 24 pence, so that the 1 HB was held between 21 and 33 points.
