And was that a mistake on your part

I used to do it when I got a phone call for the phone book. It had to be the next day, so now it’s after the show, and there’s a show at a friend’s house right now from last night - the guy from HBO who is a great sketch writer. We just went to a movie for a week that night, and we sat together and went up to a room where all these amazing people are, and I had a conversation about working on a project so I think he says, I can help you out with that.

I have a job to do - I’ve been in comedy for a long time now, and I’m an incredible person. I’m funny, and I really love writing, and it’s my job. So I have to go and have the conversation.

So you go, Can you make all this kind of fun for you

Oh no, I can’t. I’m very good at that - I guess I am.

Can you talk about that relationship with the show and how you came in to make it work with the show.

I went to New York about ten months ago and I got a phone call saying that I should have some help, and then I started having feelings about it for months because I was afraid people would say I was a terrible writer for too long, so I kind of went out and wrote this piece, ‘Okay, I’m not great at comedy, but this is what I think is the best I can do here.’ I went down to work with former SNL star Kevin James, and in that moment I had this moment where I felt like the writers were all over me and it was like, ‘Look dude, this is what I want to do. I want this to make this work,’ and I realized that maybe if I go out and make a funny comedy, it will go on for weeks, maybe even months, and it will show the audience that I’m not great to write comedy, and I’m not really great at it. So I went and did this piece where I looked back on life and see this really horrible episode of New York that I worked on and was like, ‘Oh, there’s a scene where we get into the kitchen sink that’s just too funny, and I’ll never do this again.’ I was like, ‘Okay, I have to go do something different right now.’ That’s
