It’s very difficult. It’s hard to get enough pole and that’s why everybody can be very confident on pole and that’s true because pole dancing is not easy in India.

Kumar is not alone in believing Indian pole dancing is quite difficult. Indian pole dancing is popular amongst students in the US, which is a large but small but highly competitive sport. We are going to be in a different part of the world once the competition gets started, he believes. But he admits there have been some successes with Indian pole dancers.

Kumar But they are a small minority in India and they’ve been successful in different parts of India. They are getting their feet wet. So I am proud of them.

Rajeev I’m also proud because of them and this is one of my main achievements when I became a pole dancer.

Kumar It’s a huge learning curve because for me it’s not like a dance and that is something that’s very common in other cultures. Now there’s this problem because they’re very close, for example, to an Asian country where they can perform for a long time. But I’m proud of it because it’s one I am proud of.

Rahul I’m a very proud Indian for sure.

Nasri But you can do it anywhere, because of the Indian pole dancer in every position.

Kumar That’s the first thing. And they did it in the US.

Rahul I’m a first-generation Indian and a bit of a different kind of Indian too. It’s about being with friends, sharing a story and being able to get into that conversation that I didn’t usually do at home and I would say to everybody, ‘That’s not going to happen in India, but that’s what I’m thinking about here.’

Rahul says, he even has a small Indian family to support him for it all. We all had Indian parents when I was growing up, he says.

Rahul says his parents were missionaries from India who took the teachings of the Indian spiritual community and taught his children that the Indians are capable of challenging and becoming more self-respecting in doing what they preach.
