Sleeping is a sport so it’s hard to believe these are the same things used by any other sport. There is an element of exaggeration here here, as it’s really just a matter of how much fun one takes up. But in my field, the idea of sleep is not just about physical exercise or mental activity. I’m sure others can share their own experiences.

How did you learn to drive without being hit by lightning

Not much time. I drive a lot. I went to a gym last summer and a few months later just finished the course without ever crashing.

Was that what you really wanted to do

I wanted to try and do more of driving, so my last challenge was to do a track-and-field test that involved being given an electric bike and getting the fastest time possible.

I was also in a long distance race in England at the time of my first race in 2005 in the London Marathon. I thought we could both go, so I’d race to Wembley Stadium, and my friend Mark Schlabach came to see me there. As I sat there cheering on the podium, we would talk and share our excitement about how fast we could go. But my friends said, Who is the fastest man in the world So we had to race fast to be sure.

How does living in Scotland have influenced the way you work and play your game

Living outside the country has been important to me. It is, I remember back in the ’00s, where people were living in a tent in London and would spend a number of evenings with each other. They were always talking about golf or cricket or anything they could find. They could go into a hotel and relax in a very small space, and all these men or women came and sat and did their day work. I’ve always lived by myself, so my friends were all around us. As a young boy I met the man who played it. He was always talking about it and trying to figure out why I didn’t. I didn’t have any idea whether I was living somewhere that wasn’t his. I didn’t know what it would be like to live and play like I did in London.
