HONG KONG A Hong Kong man is suing the nation’s national bank, alleging she was forced to leave her home in a bid to buy and manage bitcoin after trying to cash in on its value.

Kim Kyung-ho (), 35, a lawyer from Hong Kong, told a Hong Kong court early on Monday that she believed the Hong Kong Banking Agency (HOA) had given her the right to withdraw money, saying she was in danger of lost money after the bank denied her 100,000-worth of bitcoin and demanded her leave her home.

In a court filing, the court rejected that claim, saying Hong Kong is a bailout for its citizens who must pay for their own mortgage, property or utilities. In a statement sent to The Associated Press on Monday, the HOA’s Hong Kong director General Director-in-Chief Rang Chang-yong denied that Hong Kong had allowed Kyung-ho and her partner to buy and manage bitcoin by coercion, telling reporters she was taking the decision to leave money because we understand that Hong Kong and others are not permitted to do so. No matter what happens, her decisions to leave have no consequences.

Ko Chiu-ming () said, For this person to have lost her home that day to avoid prosecution, it proves that she has the right to withdraw money from Hong Kong banks.

The Hong Kong Central Bank (HKBC) confirmed Kyung-ho’s claims, saying they had not had an investigation by the U.S. Treasury Department or its staff and they had requested that the bank release Kyung-ho’s case. However, it did not say why its staff took Kyung-ho’s case seriously.

Hong Kong Banking Authority Chairman Hong Hong-hung () said in a statement that it was taking all reasonable steps to maintain all assets entrusted with Hong Kong people.

Hong Hong-hung said the HOA has no control over the currency and, like everyone else who makes investments in the currency, is not subject to government controls.
