D.C. University announced Tuesday that it would provide 10,000 in federal funds for the university during its 2013-2014 academic year, after the Department of Health and Human Services issued a rule declaring colleges and universities undue burden for the cost of medical care.
The new law will allow students to earn an additional 10,000 a year from the university an amount that’s expected to rise to 15,000 by 2017, starting in April.
It’s great news for students who were previously considered out of pay, were struggling financially, or just didn’t have the resources to stay in, said Jennifer Pacheco, a spokeswoman for the agency. We want to ensure that we’re helping students who are struggling, because to do otherwise would simply mean that our students have to have to pay to participate in our medical care program and be denied benefits.

Police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, said they arrested the 43-year-old man at an area restaurant Friday. He was charged with disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, but he could face up to 2 years in jail if convicted.

The man, who no longer works for the Baton Rouge Police Department, faces two felony charges, both for making racial epithets, according to federal statistics obtained by local News4. There are also charges for public indecency with a child in both cases.
