So you’re saying you love those fights from the beginning, what made you want to do this

Yes. No. The only thing I’ve been fighting for is for my life and I feel like that’s pretty much always my goal. The last week was a hard one, but it’s been very exciting because there was this great opportunity. That’s just, right, what I want to accomplish this year, and it’s just been a lot of fun.

So let’s talk more about the new deal and what you’re excited about. How did you come to want to fight alongside him

I wanted to be one of the best fighters of my generation. I always knew I wanted to be a better fighter. I’ve seen things like the World Junior Championship and now this. I’m excited to be fighting, man. I’ve always told myself I want to be that guy who just gets better. I hope the fans say ‘yeah, no matter what,’ and I want to win.

I’ve done a lot of fighting. People might not know I fight, but I’m still fighting. I was working at a time where no one knew what I was. I felt like there was nothing to this fight. What I did did was I got me so excited for my life. I had the last fight in New Hampshire and just that was it, I’m not going anywhere. I’ve still got my fighting, I’m happy.

The last fight I really needed was a win on The Miz.

He went over his best and I can tell he was happy. He came to me and said ‘I can’t believe this bout is over, guys.’ I don’t think he knew I played and just looked at me and said ‘why aren’t you going for this’ I said ‘well I’m not going to be a contender, I’m not going to be able to make this up.’ I have to say, it was a huge step for my career. I got a lot of work in to the title and I was the number one contender.
